ITALIAN POLICE

The Italian police are organized into different units, each with their own unique functions. These units include the polizia stradale, polizia municipale, carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza.

Main types of services

POLIZIA MUNICIPALE

The Polizia Municipale, also known as the Italian Municipal Police, is responsible for maintaining public order in cities and municipalities in Italy. Its tasks include enforcing parking regulations, noise control, supervising fairs and festivals, and ensuring safety in public places. Polizia municipale also serves as the city guard, which is responsible for the protection of monuments and cultural heritage.

POLIZIA STRADALE

Polizia stradale, also known as the Italian traffic police, is responsible for enforcing traffic regulations and maintaining order on the roads. Its main goal is to ensure safety on Italian roads by controlling speeds, enforcing lane regulations and combating drunk driving. Polizia stradale is also involved in tracking road accidents and providing assistance to those injured.

CARABINIERI

The Carabinieri are one of the most recognizable units of the Italian police. These are police forces of a military nature that perform both police and military functions. Carabinieri are responsible for maintaining public order, fighting crime, prosecuting criminals and ensuring the safety of citizens. They also have special units such as anti-terrorist units and special forces.

GUARDIA DI FINANZA

The Guardia di Finanza, also known as the Border and Financial Guard, is an Italian police unit responsible for tax law enforcement, border control, fighting smuggling, financial crime and money laundering. Its functions also include the protection of maritime borders and the fight against illegal immigration. The Guardia di Finanza is also responsible for protecting the financial interests of the state and preventing tax fraud.
