General informations

Civil protection in Italy consists of region president, civil protection councillor and region civil protection.

In civil protection we have:
• Genral and Administrative Affairs Service (post emergency management)

• Forecast and Prevention Service (CFD and emergency planning, quick intervention)

• Service for Volunteer coordination ( logistic, ICT support)

Regional civil Protection include:

1. Health Institutions

2. Volunteers

3. Local bodies

Activities

The four main activities of civil protection:

1. Forecast

2. Prevention

3. Emergency intervention

4. Restoration

Wchich is mean:

pick up emergency calls (112),
monitoring forest fire risk, seismic risk, hydrogeological risk, meteomarine risk,
in earthquakes, clearing debris and tidying up the area
in floods and land inundations in setting up dams, e.g. sandbags
at high temperatures, distributing water and creating water curtains, as well as additional medical protection

Summary

In Italy, we have a very extensive civil protection structure to ensure the bigger possible security due to the problematic location of the country because are located on the Apennine Peninsula.

It is a public service because civil protection is one of the key responsibilities of the Public Administration that must deliver a consistent and organised service, since civil protection can no longer be considered an incidental and occasional task as it was in the past, when different resources were gathered and deployed only when rescue actions had to be organised for the population in need;
